This blog post is about regenerative (sustainable) business.
Sustainability is a bit of a buzzword these days. I love the intention behind it, but I think we can do better.
As a conscious business owner, I don’t believe we should try and sustain how things are right now (individual, collective and ecological burnout is becoming more and more prevalent).
I believe we should work towards regeneration - for ourselves, our clients, our communities and Mother Earth.
So how do we move towards regeneration in our businesses? We look to the laws of nature. With that in mind, here are three areas of focus that will help you create a more regenerative business:
One - Simplicity
Complexity is actually incredibly unsustainable. A regenerative business model is one that focuses on simplicity. This means an ecosystem of one or two core offers that truly help people thrive. And mastering and leveraging a simple and effective marketing and sales strategy. Nature shows us that simple systems are always more fruitful.
Two - Return the Excess
There is never any excess in nature. Surplus is always returned to the forest, whether it’s feeding animals, or regenerating the soil. Striving for endless financial growth to keep up with everyone else is unsustainable because no money will ever feel enough. Instead, like nature, we access what our needs are in order to thrive, and then give any excess back to our community or planet. Now THIS is regeneration. (I’m actually taking a pay cut this year, so I can offer more value to my clients for less money AND I have time to focus on a creating an new ecological focussed project).
Three - Diversity
Forests thrive when there is biodiversity. We thrive as humans when we have variety in our lives. Therefore, having all your needs (for live, significance, security etc) met by only your business is a recipe for disaster. Diversify your life and you’ll thrive not only in your business, but in your life.
This is what we help you implement, integrate and master in our business mentoring programmes. If you’d like to learn more about how me and my team can help you build a thriving business in an ethical and regenerative way, DM me on IG (@drsarahcoxon) or email me: [email protected]
